Assistance For Families

Emergency Assistance Fund

PLEASE READ BEFORE REFERRAL OR APPLICATION

The Emergency Assistance Fund (EAF) provides direct financial assistance to undocumented and mixed-status families living in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties who have loved ones currently in deportation proceedings, detained, or already deported.

How Does It Help?

EAF support helps families meet urgent financial needs during moments of crisis providing a one-time stipend—so they can remain housed, access essential services, and navigate the immediate impacts of enforcement with dignity and community support. The stipends have been reported for use on costs like rent, utilities, medical, or even putting meony into the books of their loved ones to keep in contact.

Home-Fires are the most common disaster in the US. They destroy dwelling conditions and property for a population that already experiences housing insecurity. Home-fires destroy important documents such as Identification Card, Birth Certificates, Consular Identification Card, etc. Also, it can cause the death, injury, or illness of a major breadwinner in a family unit. Lastly, it can cause economic insecurity when undocumented immigrants cannot go to the workplace due to exclusion from unemployment services, health insurance (until Medical for all kicks in 2024), as well as limited or no sick leave benefits.

Even during a Small-Scale Disasters, many undocumented residents don’t qualify for financial assistance, unemployment, health insurance, and don’t have the basic financial needs to recover from small-scale disasters such as home-fires.

Relief for Home-Fires

  1. Undocumented or mixed-status family

  2. Resident(s) of Ventura or Santa Barbara County

  3. Affected by a Home-Fire such as:

    • Material losses (property, belongings)

    • Human loss (loss of life of someone in your immediate family)

  4. Documents required:

    • Identification Card/Consular Identification Card

    • Proof of Address (cable bill, rent bill, car insurance, etc.)

    • Proof of images/videos of the material losses caused by the Home-Fire

  5. Optional referral by the trusted organizational partners.

Our Mutual Aid Fund exists to provide immediate, flexible, and community-led support to immigrant families and individuals facing harm due to immigration enforcement, detention, displacement, and other urgent crises across the Central Coast.

As enforcement escalates, families are being torn apart with little warning—leaving loved ones without income, transportation, childcare, food, or access to legal support. Mutual aid allows us to respond quickly and humanely, meeting people where they are, without unnecessary barriers or delays.

Funds raised will go directly to feeding families on the ground, supporting trusted grassroots groups such as Collectivo Mariposa (North Santa Barbara County), Red Esperanza (South Santa Barbara County), RideAlliance (Oxnard/Ventura), Monarchs del 805 (Ventura County), and other community-led efforts responding to the immediate harm caused by ICE terror and family separation.

This fund is rooted in collective care, dignity, and solidarity. It recognizes that when systems fail our communities, we take care of each other. Every contribution is tax deductible and directly strengthens our community’s ability to respond, protect one another, and survive moments of intense harm with dignity.

Over the last decade, California has experienced extreme shifts in weather and climate that have contributed to several major natural disasters including wildfires, storms and a global pandemic. Understanding the power and ability to create change through collaboration, UndocuFund and 805 UndocuFund brought together over 25 undocumented and immigrant serving organizations from across California in September of 2022 for the first California UndocuFund Summit.

Relationship building, sharing lessons learned in each region, exploring advocacy models, and healing were all part of the two and a half day summit in Sonoma County. For many, the Summit was the first time they had attended an in-person convening since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Summit attendees expressed the urgent need for, and overwhelming commitment to building a coalition or network that will work towards a focused disaster and emergency response and policy change through an immigration lens. As a result, the California UndocuFund Network was formed.

Fiscally sponsored by the 805UndocuFund, The California UndocuFund Network is a statewide mutual aid network of organizations serving undocumented immigrants impacted by disaster, with a mission to transform systems, policies, and practices to meet the needs and guarantee the safety of California’s immigrant and undocumented communities impacted by disasters.
